West Coast Road Trip: San Francisco

I never get tired of visiting San Francisco! Living in Seattle, we also have the downtown waterfront, marine life, cool bridges, and iconic buildings. But there is just a different vibe in SF that I’ve always loved, and it’s fun to share this with my daughter since it’s her first time in this coastal city.

San Francisco’s Chinatown is fun to explore, with ambassadors there to answer questions and give directions. They helped us navigate our way to the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Company, where there was a line out the door to watch’s cookies of various sizes and flavors being made.

I’ve wanted to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum for a long time, and it didn’t disappoint. It goes through the history of Walt’s family, his childhood, his other entrepreneurial ventures before creating Walt Disney Animation Studios and all that was created after that. It has a wonderful miniature model of what the original vision for Disneyland was, and a selection of newspaper covers announcing the sad death of Walt. It was fun to see all the different animations that Disney worked on that aren’t popular.

Since we were already in the Presidio, where the Disney museum is located, we wandered past the Palace of Fine Arts and other sites that are near here like the Lucasfilm campus, the house from the movie Mrs. Doubtfire and the school building from Princess Diaries.

We finished our day in the city with a delicious dinner at The Blind Butcher in the Castro district. Neither of us had ever ridden in a Waymo (driverless car) before, and since our Uber driver was a little crazy on the way to dinner, we finished the evening with a Waymo ride home. If you’ve never ridden in a driverless car before, it’s a trip! No more to say.
